Therapeutic Coaching

For when you're ready to move forward, but something is standing in the way.

You want to move forward. You're not looking to dwell on the past for its own sake. But something keeps getting in the way, an experience that's still affecting you, a pattern that won't shift no matter how hard you try to think your way past it.

Some experiences, no matter how big or small, conscious or subconscious, can affect you in ways that are impacting the way you show up, how you trust, and how you think and feel. It's quietly blocking the your next step. From feeling like an imposter, to dealing with the impact of redundancy and from burnout to bullying in the workplace.

Therapeutic coaching keeps the forward pace of coaching, while making proper space for whatever is standing in the way of it.

What therapeutic counselling is

Counselling tends to focus on processing what's happened. Coaching moves at a forward pace. Therapeutic coaching holds a forward pace, while making room for whatever is blocking that movement, so it can be addressed rather than worked around. Often we can do this content-free. Some clients have already gone through counselling or psychotherapy, but they haven't been able to translate their insight and understanding in a way that is helpful at work.

You don't need to arrive already knowing what you need. We'll talk it through together and find the right way forward for your particular situation, at a pace that respects both where you've been and where you're trying to get to.

Examples of what we might explore:

  • Experiences that are still affecting you, such as bullying, being undermined, or repeated redundancy

  • Patterns or blocks that keep resurfacing, no matter how much you try to move past them

  • Rebuilding trust in yourself, your judgement, or your sense of safety at work

  • Burnout, once you're recovered enough to start looking forward again

  • Processing what happened, enough to loosen its hold, while still working toward what's next

How I work

Therapeutic coaching draws on whatever will genuinely help, integrated rather than applied as a fixed formula. Depending on what you bring, that might include IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Technique) for processing specific experiences or emotional blocks, NLP, hypnosis where it feels appropriate for you, and other holistic and intuitive approaches, alongside the psychological and coaching foundation. What we use, and when, depends on what the work needs, not a set programme.

This is often the right pathway if you're ready to move forward but a there are experiences that are still holding you back, mentally or emotionally. You might notice things like you're procrastinating, indecisive, resisting despite wanting to move forward or not feeling yourself.

You don't have to work this out alone before we begin. If it turns out more processing is needed first, or you're ready to move into a purely forward-focused coaching relationship, we can shift pathways as the work reveals what's needed. Some clients start in counselling and move into coaching once they feel ready; others start here and never need to look elsewhere. If you're not yet able to return to work, counselling may be the better starting point for now.

Not sure what the best fit is for you? You don't have to know before we begin. Book a connection call and we'll explore it together.
