What it takes to move your business forward
Your business is always in progress. Personally, I like to think of a business as an evolving work of art that expresses the essence of who you are. You feel connected with that business and attracting the right people, clients and customers will be so much easier. Every stage of growing your business has its own opportunities and challenges, whether you’re just starting out perhaps alongside another job or business, whether you’re fully booked or have a team to manage.
You can look at your business (and life) now and think about where you want it to be in 6 months time. What would that look like? What are your opportunities and challenges? Would your business model still be the same, are you offering the same or different services, are you spending more time with your family, how are you feeling? What is the gap between now and then? See it in your mind’s eye, get a sense of it.
Ok, let’s talk about closing that gap and what needs to happen to move your business forward and make good things happen. There a couple of different aspects to consider for your business to move forward. It’s a business in progress…
Your business foundations
You need to have your business foundations in place and allow them to evolve with the growth of your business. More specifically, you want business foundations that express the essence of you. Your business model and goals, the strategies you use, your marketing, branding and message, what you offer, how you make a difference, who you serve, your pricing and even your systems can be aligned with who you are and what you stand for. If you haven’t got this in place you could be attracting the less than ideal clients, you could be so busy that you can’t grow and then hit the cashflow rollercoaster or get burnt out, you could be dropping leads because things are slipping through the cracks or you might be delivering a service you don’t even like.
The inner game
When fear and worry are running the show, when self-doubt kicks in, when you’re not productive and don’t focus on the right things, when you’re not prepared to step out of your comfort zone and take a no excuses approach, you’re sabotaging yourself and your business can’t grow. You will get in your own way or hit that glass ceiling. That means you also need to do the inner work, because your business can only grow as far as you do. It’s what I call personal mastery – mindset, emotions, behaviour, creating habits and practices for success.
You need to upskill regularly, without getting distracted by the next shiny object. If you don’t feel comfortable with sales, if you don’t feel confident with speaking in public or other challenges you encounter along the way, your business is going to be a continuous challenge. That doesn’t mean you need to know everything about everything, but you need a good understanding of what’s going on in your business to be able to lead. Some skills are really better to outsource to someone else, who can do it much quicker, better and effective than you could so that you can focus on what you’re good at and leverage your time, but that’s a whole topic for another blog ?.
Accountability & support
Having like-minded, positive and supportive people around you who understand what it is like to be in business is an essential success factor. People, who just like you are prepared to step outside of their comfort zone and do the things they haven’t done before to create the results they have never had before. Having the accountability helps you to move forward and keep making the next steps that create the results you want.
Change starts with a decision
If you are committed to creating a business and life that is in alignment, then you need to take all of these aspects into account. Commitment means no excuses and 100 percent responsibility for the results that you create. It means that you’re no longer available for less, you’re no longer available for all the reasons why not. It means that the desire becomes bigger than the fear. That starts with a decision to change. Are you ready to make things happen and create the change you want?
